Section A  -  Summary

Can a T-Bone be cloned?  Would fungus integrate into the DNA source code?
From plagues to philosophy, control of philosophy (human knowledge) because of machines.  Bacteria acknowledged but discounted, technology advances producing toxins (chem. and biological).  Potential of organic being limited, since it seems as if everything is a bacterial by product.  Difference between mindsets of - sexually recombinant bacteria and fungus.

09 Chemicals / Toxins - spread of fungus and other microbes that can spread toxins through water and air.  Dr Arpad Pusztai and the GM debate.
10 Dif between potential mindset of sexually recombiant bacteria and fungus  [need, want, addiction].
Humans may be at top of food chain but is not Top Preditor.
Survival of the fittest means that humans (higher CNS organisms) would be replaced by simple microbes
and organisms (like fire ants and jellyfish) that support these toxins.
What would be the motivation of individual colaborating bacteria compared to a group intellegence
like fungus would have? (spores / clonning compared to sexual recombination.)
11 The propoganda
            a) bad mouthing alchahol and cigerettes - after sugar was added to alchahol and chemicals to cigerettes (tabacco growing and then again to processing)
                    BUT advocating legalization of drugs?

Glyphosate Weed Killer Benefits Soil Fungus
Editors, Progressive Farmer -- Wednesday, January 03, 2001
A significantly higher incidence of Fusarium has been recorded on the roots of Roundup Ready soybeans during four years of research,
according to scientists at the University of Missouri (MU) at Columbia.
"Experiments conducted in 1997 through 2000 at two Missouri locations revealed that Roundup Ready soybeans receiving glyphosate
at recommended rates had significantly higher incidence of Fusarium on roots within one week of application compared with" soybeans
that did not receive glyphosate, reports Pat Donald, research assistant professor and director of the MU nematology lab. In the
glyphosate-treated fields at research farms near Portageville and Columbia, scientists detected "major colonization by several distinct
types of the fungus." Although soil Fusarium populations varied among locations, glyphosate significantly increased numbers at each
location", including the Fusarium that causes SDS (sudden death syndrome).

ALSO
Be advised that Glufosinate-ammonium, the other HR herbicide, stimulates several harmful fungi and has a negative effect on at least one beneficial fungus. Glufosinate ammonium also has a strong effect on bacteria, killing some 40% of soilbacteria.   Therefore Gluf. amm. resistant varieties may require more input of fungicides.

In November, Health Canada advised parents to throw out all soft vinyl toys and teethers because a phthalate chemical, d-isonyl phosphate (DINP), added to the plastic to soften it could cause kidney and liver damage to children. Also in November, Toys 'R' Us, a worldwide seller of toys, said it would remove all direct-to-mouth toys that contain phthalates from its store shelves immediately.
Green peace has waged a battle against PVC toys since 1997 [See "Toxic Toys," Watershed Sentinel, Oct/Nov. 1997] and several European countries took action against the additives last year.

Since 1979, pediatric endocrinologists in Puerto Rico have detected an alarming increase in the number of patients with premature thelarche (4,5). ...
In 1987, the Puerto Rico Department of Health created by law the Premature Thelarche and Early Sexual Development (PTESD) Registry in response to the observed increase in cases (9). This is the only world registry created for the study of premature sexual development in a human population.   ...
In the last decade, there has been a growing interest and concern for the study of the impact of man-made chemicals on wildlife and humans. These studies have suggested that synthetic and naturally occurring substances in the environment may affect the normal function of the endocrine system. These substances are also referred to as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). In wildlife, alterations in sexual reproductive behavior have been observed in areas of contamination with EDCs. For example, malformations in the sexual organs of alligators have been reported in Lake Apopka, Florida, where high concentrations of DDT and its degradation products have been detected (12,13), and feminization of trout in the Great Lakes has been associated with the high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in water samples (14). Other studies have indicated that many chemicals, including phthalate esters, may affect development and reproduction, including germ cells, sperm motility, chryptorchidism, and hypospadias, in laboratory animals (15-19).

Researchers Daniel Doerge and Daniel Sheehan, two of the Food and Drug Administration’s experts on soy, signed a letter of protest, which points to studies that show a link between soy and health problems in certain animals. The two say they tried in vain to stop the FDA approval of soy because it could be misinterpreted as a broader general endorsement beyond benefits for the heart.
We are writing in reference to Docket # 98P-0683;  “Food Labeling: Health Claims; Soy Protein and Coronary Heart Disease.” We oppose this health claim because there is abundant evidence that some of the isoflavones found in soy, including genistein and equol, a metabolize of daidzen, demonstrate toxicity in estrogen sensitive tissues and in the thyroid.    ...
Additionally, isoflavones are inhibitors of the thyroid peroxidase which makes T3 and T4. Inhibition can be expected to generate thyroid abnormalities, including goiter and autoimmune thyroiditis.

All male fish sampled in the River Aire in Yorkshire show signs of feminisation - and "gender-bending" chemicals in the water could be to blame, scientists said yesterday.
Alan Pickering, director of the centre for ecology and hydrology at Windermere in Cumbria, told the science festival that a survey of some other rivers in Britain could show similar results. In some cases the endocrine-disrupting chemicals which seemed to behave like female hormones came from industrial detergents.
Others were natural hormones, from human waste, "reactivated" by microbes in the sewage treatment system.
Fish had similar endocrine systems to humans and male fish were showing responses to the chemicals.
Fish were showing similar changes in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Finland.

The entire male fish population of some European rivers show feminising effects from so-called "gender-bending" chemicals, according to new research.
Freshwater fish in five out of seven northern European countries surveyed so far showed some signs of exposure to the chemicals, which mimic female hormones and are present in sewage effluents. "We are finding this problem right across northern Europe, it is clearly widespread," Professor Alan Pickering of the Natural Environment Research Council's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, UK, said...Symptoms of exposure to the chemicals, known as endocrine-disrupters, ranged from relatively minor effects to, in the worst cases, fish developing both  male and female reproductive organs. In some places, such as the River Aire, Yorkshire, UK, 100% of male fish were found to show evidence of feminization...This has raised concern that predators that eat the fish, such as otters and kingfishers, could also be at risk.

Female polar bears in the Norwegian Arctic are growing male genitalia, report scientists from the Norwegian Polar Institute in Svalbard. The main cause is likely to be high levels of pollutants, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), transported to the Arctic in water and air from Europe, North America and Russia.  PCBs damage the bears' immune systems and affect their hormone levels, causing them to grow penis-like stumps. The researchers found that 1.2 per cent of Svalbard's 3000 or so bears have been affected so far. The researchers warn that polar bear numbers could "go into slow decline."

been blamed for disrupting hormones in animals and humans.

"Does Your Shampoo APE Hormones?." http://www.rfu.org/ws86.htm
There's a good chance you're cleaning your hair with an APE—an AlkylPhenol Ethoxylate—and it may not
be as biodegradable as you think it is.
We all try to be careful about pouring hazardous waste down sinks, toilets and storm drains. But we may not be quite as vigilant about the contents of our bath or shower water.
Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) are chemicals found in many industrial and consumer products. Most often they are used as surfactants (surface active agents, better known as detergents), in everything from hair dyes to pesticides. Some are also used in contraceptive products.
Surfactants are synthetic chemicals which can cut through grease. They are the key ingredient in almost all water-based cleaners. Surfactants are usually fairly large molecules; the water-soluble end of an APE is called the ethoxylate chain. The oil-soluble end is called the alkyl chain and is made up of a string of carbon atoms. If there are nine carbons, the structure is called nonyl, and the compound is a nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPE).
Personal care products containing APEs in the USA
Shampoos: Infusion 23 Shampoo, Jhirmack Silver Brightening Shampoo, Salon Selectives Botanical Blends (Citrus Peach),  Salon Selectives Level 6 (extra body), Salon Selectives Level 7 (deep).
Conditioners: 3 in 1 Detangler Plus, Finesse Frizz Free, Hydravive Deep Hydrating Masque, Papaya Pro Vita Conditioning  Potion, Salon Selectives Conditioner Type F, Salon Selectives Type M, Salon Style Conditioner Detangling with Balsam and  Biotin, Salon Style Conditioner Moisture Potion.
Styling aids: 3 in 1 Maximum Hold Mousse, Finesse Styling Gel, Herbal Essence Spray Gel, Infusion 23 Fortifying Mousse,  Infusion 23 Fortifying Spray Gel, Infusion 23 Leave-in Treatment, Jhirmack Bodifying Mousse, Jhirmack Conditioning  Mousse, Jhirmack Sculpting Gel, Salon Selectives Spray Gel 15, Salon Selectives Styling Gel 10.
Contraceptives/lubricants: Advantage 24, Conceptrol, Delfen, Emko, Encare, Gynol, Koromex/Koromex II, KY Plus.
Other personal care products: Gillette Foamy Shaving Cream (Sensitive Skin), Liquid Ivory Soap.
Surfactants are bad for fish and other aquatic life. As they are used in products which are quickly poured away, it is important that they biodegrade before they reach lakes, streams or oceans. However, as is the case with APEs, some ingredients break down very slowly or form other compounds which do not break down at all.
For example, a typical NPE breaks down by shedding the water-soluble ethoxylate end of its chain to form nonylphenol, a compound which stays in the environment much longer than the original and is more toxic to fish.
It has recently been discovered that nonylphenol and octylphenol affect the endocrine system of birds, fish and mammals, including humans. The endocrine system consists of a variety of glands which secrete hormones such as testosterone, estrogen and adrenaline. Researchers have found that octylphenol and octylphenol ethoxylate caused decreases in testicular size and sperm production in male rats. These results are worrisome, because they show effects of alkylphenols on target cells in mammals, raising the concern of possible human health effects.
More than 80 percent of APEs used are NPEs, widely utilized in household and institutional cleaning products for over 40 years.
A major reason for using APEs is their low cost. APEs are very effective and inexpensive compared to other surfactants, which is why they are often used in generic and private label products. Alternatives exist for virtually every use of APEs.  Many alternatives have already been screened and to date only alkyl phenols have shown estrogenic activity.
Identifying APEs in personal care products is relatively easy as these products have all ingredients listed on their label. The lists of ingredients are often long and contain tongue-twisting names, but it is possible to scan them for APEs, most commonly referred to as octoxynol or nonoxynol.
Household cleaning products seldom list all ingredients. Surfactants are often identified by generic terms such as "nonionic surfactant" or "cleaning agent." Ask manufacturers if their products contain alkylphenol ethoxylates.

Agent Orange to Terminator Seeds                    By Delores Broten
http://www.rfu.org/ws86.htm
The latest issue of the respected British magazine The Ecologist reads like a case file for the Environmental Nuremberg trial of one of the world's largest corporations. Monsanto has been a supplier of "better living through chemistry" for almost a hundred years. The company took its first steps before World War I as a manufacturer of saccharin, and then industrial chemicals like sulphuric acid. But there are other Monsanto flagship products which the world will long remember. Over the years, from PCBs to the dioxin-contaminated 2,4 D and 3,4,5-T in Agent Orange, from Roundup to genetic engineering,
Monsanto has "been there, done that."
Monsanto's Bovine Growth Hormone (also known as BST) is enhancing the milk production of cows throughout the USA, with what critics contend are unknown consequences to human health. What is known, because the label says so, is that cows can suffer many infections and other problems as a result of the burden from hormonally-forced extra production. As we go to press, Health Canada's scientists are testifying to a Senate Committee about the lack of raw data and the need for more research before BGH is allowed in Canada. Parliament Hill is also echoing with rumours of paper-shredding, and complaints from the scientists about pressure from senior bureaucrats to serve the corporate clients. Canadian citizens have been vociferously resisting the corporation's attempts to force-feed this extra hormone into the dairy supply for years. The US, incidentally, is, to date, the only country in the world to approve the uninhibited use of BGH

abstract: Sea Sickness.(pollution, algae blooms, and climate change affect coral reefs and other marine organisms)
Nor is bleaching the only threat to corals. Increasingly, Cervino points out, these colonies are also exhibiting infections, tumors, and "obscure" lesions.
"We've been going to photos of corals from as far back as the 1930s," he says, and find no sign of many of these diseases.
Over the past 15 years, for instance, "there has been a very striking increase in the frequency and extent of harmful algal blooms," notes JoAnn M. Burkholder, an aquatic botanist at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
HEED's data now link many of these blooms of poison-producing algae to pollution (SN: 9/27/97, . 202) and a widespread warming of coastal and shallow waters.  Moreover, Burkholder observes, HEED's data suggest that the ecological impacts of these blooms are more pervasive than most biologists had realized. Until recently, scientists typically investigated marine disease outbreaks as isolated incidents. The idea that some might be linked struck Epstein when he began ruminating about a host of events in 1987.

The dangerous consequences of factory farming are being felt all across the country
BY ANDREW NIKIFORUK
Long after the dead have been buried in Walkerton, Ont., rural Canadians  who rely on groundwater will continue to feel and smell the impact of
a  largely unreported revolution: the growth of factory farms. This new industry,  or what governments call "intensive livestock operations," has
unsettled  farm communities from New Brunswick to Alberta. Unlike the family  enterprises of old, which proudly cared for 20 pigs or 60 cattle,
these new  facilities operate on an entirely different and largely unregulated scale.
In addition, the world's key pork producers, Taiwan and Holland,  recently pushed production into the danger zone, causing severe water  pollution
and animal disease outbreaks. But their environmental disasters  have had an effect here: hog barns managed by Europeans or funded by  Asian
investors are popping up all over the country.

US FARM SUBSIDES FAVOUR LARGE CORPORATE FARMS      by Chakravarthi Raghavan

Geneva, 8 May 2000 -- Farm subsidies paid out in the United States over the period 1996 to 1998,
 amounted to $ 22.856 billion, a new study by a Washington-based non-profit environmental research
 organization shows.
And more than 60% of these federal farm subsidies under the Freedom to Farm Act of 1996 went to
the top 10% of farmers and landowners or an average of $100,000 each, while the bottom 90% of the
farmers got just $6900 for the three years.

payments under four headings under the 1996 'Freedom to Farm' law enacted by the US Congress:

Texas Leads United States in Animal Farm Wastes    By Cat Lazaroff    WASHINGTON, DC, May 19, 2000 (ENS)

Texas produces more animal waste than any other state and is creating a public health and pollution hazard, concludes a new report released Thursday by the Sierra Club and Consumers Union Southwest Regional Office. Unlike many other livestock producing states, Texas provides little oversight or regulation of these facilities, the report finds.
Texas livestock operations produce more wastes than those of any other state (Photo courtesy USDA)
"Animal Factories: Pollution and Health Threats to Rural Texas," shows that Texas produces about 220 billion pounds of animal wastes each year, and this number is rising.  Current estimates show that Texas is producing 280 billion pounds or 40 pounds of manure per Texas resident per day.
"We already knew that Texas leads the nation in toxic air pollution from manufacturing industries, and now we have the dubious honor of holding the number one spot in manure production," said Ken Kramer, director of the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club in Texas.
California holds the number two spot in manure production, but produces only half of the amount - 110 billion pounds of waste - that Texas does.

Californians Hear About Governor Bush's Toxic Record in Sierra Club TV Ads Highlighting Bush Ties to Polluters

(SACRAMENTO, California and AUSTIN, Texas)-- The Sierra Club today launched its first California TV ads in 2000, highlighting Texas Governor George Bush's failure to protect Texans from pollution and noting that he has received "more than a million dollars in campaign contributions from Texas's worst air polluters." The ads are designed to educate Californians about Bush's record, and to encourage them to ask the Governor to clean up the mess in Texas.
"Air pollution in Texas got worse over the last five years, and Governor Bush has done little to solve this crisis," said Carl Pope, Sierra Club's Executive Director. "Thousands of Texas children continue to have their health threatened by the worst air pollution in the country. That's why we are running these ads to call on Governor Bush to take concrete, comprehensive steps to attack the pollution crisis in Texas."
Pollution problems plague Texas, but Gov. Bush has dismissed complaints, attempting to confuse the issue by taking credit for pollution cuts achieved by his predecessor and those mandated by federal law. In fact, despite requirements in the federal Clean Air Act -- and despite the opportunities provided by the state's enormous amounts of air and water pollution -- Texas has curbed pollution at a slower rate than the rest of the nation.

That day Deer Park registered 251 parts of ozone per billion, more than twice the federal standard, and Houston surpassed Los Angeles as the smoggiest city in the United States.
One of the biggest contributors to Deer Park's pollution is a plant owned by Enron, Houston's wealthiest company. Enron is also the single largest contributor ($555,000 and counting) to the political ambitions of Texas Governor George W. Bush, Republican Candidate for President of the United States. Kenneth Lay, the chief executive of Enron, has personally given over $100,000 to Bush's political campaigns, more than any other individual. Ozone Layer, which first required controls on the world's consumption of ozone depleting substances. Over 160 countries have
signed on to the Protocol, whose phasedown schedule for developed countries was accelerated twice and completely phased out
Halon production at the end of 1994 and CFC production at the end of 1995.
The Protocol's coverage has also been extended to include hydrochlorofluorocarbons and other chlorine- and bromine-containing
substances such as some solvents and methyl bromide, a widely used soil fumigant.
At their meeting in Vienna (December 1995), the Parties agreed to phase down the use of HCFCs in developing countries and to
phase out production of methyl bromide in developed countries by 2010, to cap its production in developing countries in 2002.
In 1997, the methyl bromide deadline for developed countries was advanced to 2005, and a developing country deadline was set
at 2015. The 105th Congress enacted an amendment in October 1998 to adjust phaseout of methyl bromide to 2005.

Canola and the myelin sheath
Some speculate on the actual or potential effects of ELF and RF/MW radiation such as microwaves, wireless cell phones and computers. There seems to be studies that show these things to be detrimental to the neurological system causing accelerated aging (enhanced cell death and cancer), moods,
depression, suicide, anger, rage and violence. I do not have an opinion on microwaves but these studies
seem to show something could be happening to people that have enough money, need, and / or the
knowledge to use cell phones.
It would seem that these people could also be knowledgeable enough to be health conscious, if
they are health conscious and use Canola Oil which is a known to cause neurological problems - it strips the myelin sheath off of the (neuron's) axon. Brain cells are known as axons, and stripping the myelin
sheath off of them causes them to short circuit as well as the potential of other problems. Other items
that can cause problems or cancer are MSG, Bovine Growth Hormone, food colorings and sugar. Top

Morris, W. C. “How Safe Are Fresh Vegetables?” Agricultural Extension Service [Online] Retrieved http://web.utk.edu/~utext/whats/GreenTn.html
Can you get a food-borne illness by eating a salad or other vegetables?
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says yes.
The CDC reported that 5 percent of food-borne outbreaks were attributed to fruits and vegetables. These were
both fresh and processed. This compares to 9 percent for beef, 7 percent for pork, 3 percent for chicken and 6
     percent for shellfish.
So fruits and vegetables are just as likely to cause a food-borne illness as food we think of as being more prone to cause food-borne illness.
Some organisms found on fresh produce will survive under refrigerated conditions. Those are Listeria,
Yersinia, and Aeromonas. These bacteria come from the field, as well as field workers, pickers, haulers and process workers
[This last link shows that listeria is also in the ground, (not just in poultry) but what I have heard of is listeria in turkeys, how many times do you hear of wild animals or a dog eating the poultry and they did not die from eating raw meat, there seems to be more.]

Typically, shellfish are only marginally affected, even though a single clam can sometimes
accumulate sufficient toxin to kill a human. Shellfish poisoning syndromes have been
given the names paralytic (PSP), diarrhetic (DSP), neurotoxic (NSP), and amnesic (ASP)
on the basis of descriptive human symptoms.
Pfiesteria and related toxic species produce as yet unidentified toxins that have been implicated
in temporary short-term losses of neurocognitive abilities (short-term memory) in Maryland
residents exposed to water or aerosol containing the organism.
Harmful cyanobacterial blooms (HCBs) are indicative of excessive nutrient loading in oligohaline
estuarine waters. Excessive growths of Anabaena, Aphanizomenon, and Microcystis, can lead
to harmful HCBs that exhibit severe neuro, cyto and hepatotoxicity in a variety of mammals
(e.g., humans and farm animals), birds, fish and invertebrates (e.g., zooplankton). HCBs are
national economic and environmental threats that have occurred in large estuarine systems
(e.g., Chesapeake Bay, Albemarle-Pamlico Sound and Florida Bay) and the Great Lakes.  For
example, a persistent algal bloom dominated by a new HCB species, Synechococcus elongatus,
appeared in 1991 in mid-north central Florida Bay, spread to central and western areas, and
persists more or less to this day.
