One of the most
controversial aspects
of the research that allegedly culminated in the
epidemic is that it was
funded by the US atomic energy commission, which was
anxious to discover
what might happen to communities when large numbers
were wiped out by
nuclear war. While there are no texts or recorded
speeches by Neel
explaining his conduct, Prof Turner believes the
only explanation is that he
was trying to test controversial eugenic theories
like the Nazi scientist
Josef Mengele. He quotes another anthropologist who
read the manuscript as
saying: "Mr Tierney's analysis is a case study
of the dangers in science of
the uncontrolled ego, of lack of respect for life,
and of greed and
self-indulgence. It is a further extraordinary
revelation of malicious and
perverted work conducted under the aegis of the
atomic energy commission."
The idea that a CNS
is automatically the highest form of life could go the way of spontaneous
generation. Francesco Redi disproved spontaneous generations in
1668. This was the start of humans being able to prove that we are not
alone in wanting to survive. What level of intelligence is needed to
survive? Currently most people could say that being organic and having a
“DNA source code” allowing replication would be the minimum standard.
Using a DNA source code as the foundation of intelligence could allow the hypothesis
of: oil being intelligent if it is the by-product of bacteria like Thomas Gold
of Harvard believes.
This paper is to
present two hypnosis. The first one is that curtailing new ideas by “Food
Laws” is detrimental to free speech and continuing technology. The second
hypnosis is that local opinion is important Internationally, and that stifling
those opinions can be detrimental. The saying “From the mouth of a child”
shows that professionals can sometimes miss obvious conclusions, or forget the
foundations their conclusions are based on.
The end result of
this paper is that NAFTA, bio-chips, Mondex, Corporations as “juristic
persons”, and a belief in all knowledge being in a computer could be
detrimental. What if Biochips could develop a fungal infection? It
could also be like being in a library that none of the books have titles, all
information, and no new connections. The brain processes sound energy,
light energy and more, has a topography that bio- chips can not match, because
of the potential of having to take the wiring from the originating organs –
eyes, ears, ect.
I may come up with
a novel idea but these ideas should be nothing more than what a stockbroker or
a bank loan officer needs to speculate on in authorizing a loan. When it
gets to the point of individual is not being allowed to have new ideas, that
they are the property of corporations, something is wrong.
Will add to this
but I am attempting to post this to show that the propaganda put out by
advertising companies by branding someone like me an environmentalist or
alarmist at worst or a non “peer reviewed” layperson at best is damaging to all
involved.
People should be
allowed to keep their own intellectual property and be able to converse about
their ideas at a local or global level.
For the
philosophies that the Bush family seems to have
advocated like backing Hitler, and more are not the ideas that will help
us.
Science Fiction and Technical writing may finance my Physics degree, but the
way food slander laws are multiplying I may not be able to write about anything
but computer programs. The new slander laws “seem” to actually be over
intellectual property rights, so how can they be wrong?
The current laws have multiple problems, but the first, and main problem is
that they stifle the creativity of writers. The stifling of individual
rights was the basis of a 1950 book called “1984” by George Orwell and genetic
speculation was the basis of the 1932 book “Brave New World” by Aldous
Huxley. These books show that the idea of a corporation having a monopoly
and of genetic speculation made money for these writers. Now it seems as
if corporations are trying to have a monopoly on the creative ideas.
Creative ideas have been the basis of many new businesses and some of those
businesses have gone belly up. Currently some corporations are selling
Genetically Modified seed to farmers and instead of taking the risks that are
part of creating a new business they are using the farmer as a scrape goat, by
making the farmer pay the price of experimental field trails. This paper
addresses the some forms of genetic engineering as a business fad. Some
fads like the wearing of wigs by members of British Parliament allow people to
remember the foundation of the laws the Parliament is based on, other fads that
can not face the light of public scrutiny and speculation will go the way of
the male cod piece.

is based on the
skin discolorations that signaled the start of about the Plague
devastating London in 1665.
I found out that the brain is 60 to 70 percent fat,
and I could think of all kinds of story lines.
1) Since the brain
is an energy source and an intelligence matrix, speculating on how many other
energy sources could have intelligence, possible suspects would be the sun, crude oil, nuclear items, and giant red woods.
What kind of intelligence would be required? I puzzled over that
question, and considered my in house examples of an cat and several tanks of
tropical fish. Sitting in front ot the 50 gal tank gave me the
answer. Basic intelligence could be defined as a short attention span but
a long memory about items needed for survival. So, what kind of survival
would a microbe like bacteria need to know about? Well it seems as if
bacteria can decode and use different types of (DNA) food, some bacteria can
even convert toxic chemicals. Is it possible for microbes that bud
or clone to have DNA memories that span the beginning of the world? Could
bacteria (that survive radiation) drift
through space and enter our through the hole in our ozone layer? If so
what kind of DNA source code would it have? Would it have originated on a
world that blew it’s self up? What would radiation resistant bacteria
consider acceptable as a means of survival?
Fungus,
an microbe that we use but can also have toxins that can
kill us. If survival is intelligence “or” intelligence is based on
survival, what other types of intelligence would want to survive? Would
fungus want to survive and what would survival be.

A chemicals cure seems worse than the disease and pathogen resistant crops are
out there.
Chemicals are turning up or being added to such diverse things as cigarettes to
rain.
Chemicals can
affect a rudimentary nervous system (snail), lymph glands, or the higher
nervous system (brain) of a human being.
CNS (Central
Nervous System), it seems as if many diseases that affect humans have to have a
intermediate stage within a simple “nervous” system of a plant or
snail. (I need to find a word that implies a cellerar level – beginning
of the nervous system) dif. Between genetic to cell, contagious diseases do
they rewrite the DNA, is that why we “can” develop and immunity?
Drugs such as
Ritalin are not effective as a band aid, they can cover up the symptoms but the
damage is still being done, and some time the drugs themselves add to the
damage. Ref: it seems as if children that were already on drugs did the
school shootings in America.
All chemicals are
systematic and are (drank) uptaken by the plant and / or absorbed by the plant
stomata, washing will not remove them. Put a stalk of celery in a glass
of red food dye and a few dyes latter you will see the dye as it travel up the
celery by osmosis.
GM plants “seem “
to need more chemicals; some of these crops are developed to need more
chemicals.
Chemicals can take
up to 10 years or more to break down, some break down in to forms that are even
deadlier than the original chemical.
IQ was thought to
be genetic, propaganda to keep slaves. Blond jokes seem to have
originated because of blond ‘slavs’ being the slaves, and the Hitler era pushed
that, how many true blonds were there in his higher command. If you read
Mark Twain in the Hapsburg / Austrian legal system you will see that it already
had things like filer busters like the American system has. The
definition of a human and human rights were being debated to the determent of
those that wanted to keep their slaves. In America the black American was
singled out, in many European states it was the blond ‘slav’. I do not
know if there could be a genetic basis to IQ but your IQ or instinct / ability
to survive can be taken away if you do not have the right nutriention.

This is beginning
to look as if I will have several papers that start with different themes out
of this rough draft. So, on with number 3.
In connecting the
dots there are many things that do not make sense about NAFTA. NAFTA has
helped mess up communications to the point that we are having a world wide
problem with different fungal types, from mold spores in the air to red tides
for the last several years. Antibiotics, sugar and other chemicals
that kill the bacteria that is beneficial to us in the same situation as agar
from seaweed or irradiated meat that has contacted air.
When the bacteria
that is beneficial to us is killed by antibiotics, sugar, or other chemicals it
leaves us open ground for fungus to invade
If you do
write about this problem you run the risk of being slapped with a law suit
Why would anyone want to deregulate banks and savings and loans, then possibly
go to the extent of allowing insurance companies to do finance and
investment. When insurance companies are traded on the
international market and if you have your money in an insurance company – who
owns your money?
It has already been
shown that items from a plant can exist through natural (bee) processing, and
effect humans.
In the late 1950’s a Nobel prize was awarded to Dr. Lederberg for finding out that
bacteria can recombine in sexual ways. This could mean that human
reproduction has saved us from micros, fungusand other

Looking
back at the debate over diapers, from our perspective in this year 2000,
Could the
chemical companies want the heat taken off of them – how many chemical
companies are (along or part) with the diaper companies – or could some people
have played them off of each other, to make laws allowing corporations to have
more rights. Anyway, it looks as if this debate will start up
again.
My take on this is that – an individual mother that uses cloth dipers is also
paying the city she lives in for whatever power and water is used, by buying
the disposables she is giving the manufacturing money and the utility money to
another “entity” that may not even bank in the city that the manufacturing
plant is in. Diaper links with the hazards that disposables can have are

At a meeting of the
Geological Society of America held last Fall in Phoenix, Robert Brenner of Yale
University and Gary
Landis of the U. S.
Geological Survey reported the results of a QMS analysis of ancient air bubbles
trapped in amber. They obtained a remarkable result. The atmosphere of the
Earth 80 million years ago was discovered to have 50% more oxygen than modern
air. Brenner and Landis found that for all gas samples taken from amber 80
million years old the oxygen content ranged between 25% to 35% and averaged
about 30% oxygen. Cretaceous air was supercharged with oxygen.

Now, however, many
area lobstermen, and a growing number of scientists, believe that New York
City's aerial spraying of pesticides last fall to combat the West Nile virus,
along with huge runoffs from Hurricane Floyd, may have combined to trigger the
lobster kill. More than 10 million lobsters, or 90% of stock, are thought
to have died last fall in the western part of the Long Island Sound, where
catches remain one-fifth of what they were last year.
Researchers say the
pesticide theory begins with a simple fact: Lobsters are bugs. Like mosquitoes,
they are arthropods, or members of the same genealogical family.
Lobsters also are
known to be extremely sensitive to insecticides, in many cases, even more
susceptible than insects. But research suggests that although pesticides such
as malathion may well have played a role in the kill, the story probably is
much more complicated.

Maryland, September 21, 2000 (ENS) - The Chesapeake Bay ecosystem is
dangerously out of balance, says the conservation group the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation. The group’s annual "State of the Bay Report," released
Wednesday, shows that despite modest improvements since the 1980s, key Bay
systems are still in trouble.
Conservationists
say the state of the Chesapeake Bay, bordered by Virginia, Maryland and
Delaware, is an illustration of the problems facing all of the nation’s coastal
wetlands.
"On balance,
the Bay is in somewhat better shape than it was 15 years ago," said Baker.
"But continued water quality problems, as evidenced in the nutrient runoff

Canada, September 18, 2000 (ENS) - A new survey of hunters and elders in
Canada's far north has found troubling signs of pollution's effect on wildlife.
"One time I
have hunted a seal in the summer, and everything about the seal was
unhealthy," said Koalie Kooneeliusie, a hunter from Qikirtarjuaq.
"Internal organs were swollen. I have seen seals with patches of skin
missing. The skin looked as if it was taken out, as if cut out. The skin had
holes in them."
"Perhaps one
of the most interesting observations that was made of seals, walruses, and
narwhals was the presence of round wounds in the skin," said the survey
report.
"These were
described as looking like burns or that a circular bit of skin was removed. A
similar abnormality found on a walrus in Arctic Bay in March was analyzed and
determined to be caused by the strain of bacteria that is responsible for the
flesh eating disease."

the only threat to corals. Increasingly, Cervino points out, these
colonies are also
exhibiting infections, tumors, and "obscure" lesions. "We've
been going to
photos of corals from as far back as the 1930s," he says, and find
no sign of many of
these diseases.
Over the past 15
years, for instance, "there has been a very striking increase in
the frequency and
extent of harmful algal blooms," notes JoAnn M. Burkholder,
an aquatic botanist
at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. HEED's data
now link many of
these blooms of poison-producing algae to pollution (SN:
9/27/97, p. 202)
and a widespread warming of coastal and shallow waters.
Moreover,
Burkholder observes, HEED's data suggest that the ecological
impacts of these
blooms are more pervasive than most biologists had realized.
Until recently,
scientists typically investigated marine disease outbreaks as
isolated incidents.

Coast, shutting down some oyster fishing and killing millions of fish whose
rotting remains are fouling beaches.
State environmental
officials say it's the largest concentration of red tide since 1986, when more
than 22 million fish died in four months.

High concentrations
of the algae called red tide produce a toxin that kills fish by affecting the
central nervous system.
For humans eating
contaminated fish or shellfish, the toxin can cause numbness, dizziness,
nausea, fever and muscle paralysis. The most serious cases can result in
respiratory arrest and death. In addition, people who swim in affected bodies
of water can suffer breathing and eye irritation.

unofficial notice to Japan that he is considering economic sanctions against
Japan to exert pressure for a halt to Japan's lethal whale research program.
Beginning with the
killing of about 300 minke whales in 1987, one year after the International
Whaling Commission imposed a ban on commercial whale hunting, the Japanese
research program now claims 440 minke whales annually in the Antarctic. In
1994, Japan expanded its lethal research to the North Pacific with the
additional killing of 100 minke whales.
This year, Japan
announced plans to kill an additional 10 sperm and 50 Bryde's whales.

Methamphetamine is
fast becoming the crack epidemic of the 1990's. Meth production and use is a
nationwide problem, cutting across all income and racial divisions; the impact,
however, is disproportionally felt in California. The Drug Enforcement Agency
[DEA] has identified California as a `source country' of methamphetamine with
literally hundreds of clandestine laboratories, or `clan labs,' located
throughout the State.
Clan labs have
proliferated at such a pace that California officials now consider them major
threats to the public, law enforcement and public communities, even the
environment. In just 1996, the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement [BNE] raided 835
clan labs in California, up from 465 in 1995. Just think of that 835 labs
seized in California in 1 year--almost one every 10 hours. Clearly, California
is on the front line in the war on methamphetamine.
As a result,
California is in desperate need to help to fight this wicked drug. The
Methamphetamine Elimination Act would provide $18 million to the Bureau of
Narcotics Enforcement to fight meth through a 5-point strategy.
Specifically, funds from this legislation will be used to hire, train, and
equip 126 sworn and nonsworn law enforcement staff to do the following:

President Clinton to pardon a longtime friend and supporter sentenced to
a year in prison for trying to illegally influence Clinton's former agriculture
secretary.
Tyson Foods
executive Archie Schaffer III was sentenced Monday by a
federal
judge who believes Schaffer is innocent and has twice tried
to
acquit him, only to be reversed by an appeals panel. Soon afterward, both
Republicans and Democrats in Clinton's home state called for a pardon.
Schaffer, the main
spokesman for the Arkansas-based poultry
producer,
was convicted under a 1907 law of trying to influence agricultural
policy
by arranging for then-Secretary Mike Espy to attend a Tyson
birthday
party in Arkansas in 1993.

World Trade is of
major interest to developing countries, but some things do keep their names
because they are made certain ways, this has at least allowed their to be some
kind of standard while world wide trade unfolds. I personally hope that
some standards stay in place. Why? Have you ever felt Egyptian
cotton? The problem for (expressly) for developing countries is that they
will saturate the market with one item that they can get a high price for and
then someone else is able to make the same item (usually with preservatives –
in the case of some foods) and saturate the market to the point that the
developing country may not have a market anymore.

Currently
globalization is occurring under one version of rules put forth by a global
commerce agency called the World Trade Organization (WTO). This version of the
rules is not "free trade." In fact the famous philosophers of free
trade -- like Adam Smith and David Ricard -- must be spinning in their graves
to see to what global commerce terms
their term "free trade" has been applied. For instance, the WTO has

South Africans
should be aware that a key provision of the nation's new constitution risks
entrenching a new form of power abuse in the country -- autocratic rule by big
corporations.
South Africa's new
Constitution establishes that "juristic persons are entitled to the rights
in the Bill of Rights to the extent required by the nature of the rights and of
the juristic persons." This provision affords fundamental constitutional
protections -- freedom of expression, political rights and guarantees of
privacy -- not just to people, including those within corporations, but to the
artificial entity of the corporation itself.
The American experience
of providing corporations with similar rights that people have should ring
alarm bells for South Africans concerned about preserving their newly won
freedoms. While the U.S. constitution does not explicitly afford corporations
the rights guaranteed in our Bill of Rights, court decisions have extended
almost all those rights to corporate entities, with disturbing results.
The American
experience makes clear that the constitutional language covering "juristic
persons" creates direct conflicts with several of the South African
Constitutional Principles of 1993, including the assurance that real persons
will have political rights, associational rights and rights to life, security
of person, the environment and information.

Introduction
The World Trade
Organization (WTO) has one over-arching goal—removing barriers to trade.
Despite having no environmental or public
health expertise or
mandate, the WTO has reached out to establish rules and issue decisions
declaring environmental and health measures to be
unfair trade
barriers. More and more, the WTO is emerging as the entity with the greatest
power to determine whether we can maintain effective
standards that
promote food safety and protect public health and the environment.
In ferreting out
what it considers unjustifiable standards, the WTO does not develop solutions
to health and environmental problems. Nor does
it defer to
governments or international institutions that are developing or endorsing
strategies for reducing the proliferation of harmful
chemicals.
Nonetheless, the WTO
second guesses the solutions governments have adopted for regulating toxins and
declares them impermissible if, in the
view of three trade
bureaucrats operating in secret, they are not sufficiently justified or they
interfere too much with international trade. And
when the WTO passes
judgment, the stakes are high. If the country that loses in the WTO does not
change the offending law, the WTO
authorizes
imposition of trade sanctions until the law is changed. This has proven to be a
potent device for weakening or eliminating the underlying law.

groundwater will continue to feel and smell the impact of a largely
unreported revolution: the growth of factory farms. This new industry, or
what governments call "intensive livestock operations," has
unsettled farm communities from New Brunswick to Alberta. Unlike the
family enterprises of old, which proudly cared for 20 pigs or 60 cattle,

Philippines, September 12, 2000 (ENS) - They are already endangered, and now 29
of the largest clams in the world may die because of a two-year old conflict
between a multi-million dollar cement plant and community residents in the coastal
town of Agno on the island of Luzon.
The cement plant is
being established in the Abagatanen Cove where 35 of the clams were placed in
1998 by the Agno fishermen with the help of the Concerned Divers of the
Philippines for the purpose of expanding clam production and management. Six of
the original 35 died after their meat were forcibly extracted.
Goldsun Corporation
was able to acquire an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) from
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Antonio
Cerilles. After the certificate was issued DENR's environmental management
bureau ordered the removal of the clams.
Each of the
remaining 29 Tridacna gigas clams measures 1.5 meters (nearly five feet) in
length and weigh over 250 kilograms (550 pounds). If protected, they can
multiply so quickly there will be thousands in a few years, say their
defenders.

filed over 20 percent fewer lawsuits in the area of environmental crime
prosecution than [were filed in] the Reagan/Bush years," Nader said.

The suit was filed

Chytrid skin fungi,
which have devastated frogs in parts of Australia and Central America, have now
turned up in the wild in the United States. Early signs hinted that U.S.
species might tolerate the infection as no more than a nuisance, but new data
from Arizona raise the possibility that chytrids cause die-offs in the United
States.

IMB research officer, Mark Ragan published the results of a study on frog

A fungus from the
genus Aspergillus is the probable agent of epizootic
infections that
have caused mass mortality of sea fan corals (Gorgonia ventalina) over the past
15 years1,2. Here we show that four strains of the fungus involved in these
infections are members of the species Aspergillus sydowii, a common saprobe (an
organism that lives on decaying matter) that is found in both terrestrial and
marine environments. Isolates of A. sydowii taken from diseased sea fans caused
new infections of sea fans in inoculation experiments, whereas isolates taken
from elsewhere did not.

and the Wellcome Trust-funded Sanger Centre (Hinxton, Cambridgeshire) have been
awarded ,370,000 by the Wellcome Trust's Beowulf Genomics initiative to
investigate the biology of a deadly fungus.
Aspergillus
fumigatus causes pneumonia and brain abscesses in people with damaged immune
systems following organ transplantation, burns, treatment for cancers and when
patients are taking steroid drugs. It also
causes a severe
allergy in asthmatic and cystic fibrosis patients. It is the commonest mould infection
worldwide, affecting children and adults alike. In the 12 years up to 1993,
there was a 14-fold increase in cases
in Europe. Once in
the lungs, Aspergillus infection is difficult to diagnose and if untreated is
always fatal.

Stachybotrys atra
is a fungus that can kill babies, frail seniors and those with a severely
weakened immune system. And this mold was found in some family homes in
Wallaceburg during an extensive CMHC study of housing in that southwestern
Ontario town.

Stachybotrys
chartarum (atra) is a saprophytic greenish-black fungus found worldwide that
colonizes particularly well in
high-cellulose
material, such as straw, hay, paper and cellulose-containing building material.
Stachybotrys chartarum grows and
sporulates in the
temperature range of 2-40°C. The minimum water activity for germination is
reported to range from 0.85 to
0.95, and for
growth and sporulation from 0.91 to 0.96, depending on temperature and medium.
Stachybotrys chartarum (atra)
is capable of
producing several toxins including macrocyclic trichothecenes (satratoxins H,
G, F, roridin E, verrucarin J, and
Trichoverrols A and
B). However, many researchers still know little about the temperature and
moisture conditions under
which these toxins
are produced. It has been postulated that moist high-cellulose and low-nitrogen
materials at a temperature
range of 0-40°C can
provide sufficient condition for production of
Stachybotryotoxins.

It will be at least
two more months before staff at the mould-infested Newmarket courthouse can
return to work inside a newly renovated and decontaminated building, says a
Canadian Union of Public Employees official.
Val Erwin, who
works in the court support office and is a health and safety officer for CUPE,
said renovations to the building, closed by the province six weeks ago to clean
up toxic mould, appear to be on schedule.

improving control of a devastating plant pathogen which

about two and a half thousand species in Australia.
It is so small that

naked eye. Yet this microscopic fungus poses such a serious a threat that it
has been identified by the Federal Government as one of Australia's five
national threatening processes.
Phytophthora
cinnamomi, better known as the pathogen that causes the dieback disease in

can affect humans. Fungi are deceptively simple, single-cell microbes. They are

Texas (AP) -- A bloom of toxic red tide algae is spreading along the Texas Gulf
Coast, shutting down some oyster fishing and killing millions of fish whose
rotting remains are fouling beaches.
State environmental
officials say it's the largest concentration of red tide since 1986, when more
than 22 million fish died in four months.

High concentrations
of the algae called red tide produce a toxin that kills fish by affecting the
central nervous system.
For humans eating
contaminated fish or shellfish, the toxin can cause numbness, dizziness,
nausea, fever and muscle paralysis. The most serious cases can result in
respiratory arrest and death. In addition, people who swim in affected bodies
of water can suffer breathing and eye irritation.

properties of high-decibel, low frequency sound in seawater to detect what the
Navy claims are increasingly quiet foreign submarines.
In Exposure
Guidelines for Navy Divers Exposed to Low-Frequency Active Sonar, a 1996 report
by F. Michael Pestorius of the University of Texas at Austin and Capt. M.D.
Curley of the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory in Groton, Connecticut,
the authors describe a diver who was exposed to an underwater low-frequency
sound of 160 dB. After twelve minutes, the diver experienced "dizziness,
somnolence, irritability to concentrate and residual tingling in arms. He
received medical attention on the spot and recovered, only to suffer a relapse
an hour after the event and another while driving home from and chronic
depression.
